Health Careers Institute

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Health Careers Institute (HCI) which will continue at Northwest High School this fall! Currently for 9th - 12th grade students only, this comprehensive, multi-year program will expose, educate and prepare dedicated students for a career in the health care field. As part of this program, each HCI graduate will be fully prepared for admission into college and a career in health care.

Components of the Health Careers Institute include:

  • Health Career Presentations
  • College Search and Application Assistance
  • Health Care Job Shadowing
  • College Scholarship and Financial Aid Seminars
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Standardized Test Prep (ACT)
  • Health Care Internship
  • Interpersonal Skills course
  • Service Learning Opportunities
  • CNA certification

There will also be a series of topics designed to help the parent/guardian support their student as he/she transitions from high school through college and into a career! These components include: Help with College & Scholarship Applications, Help with Finding and Applying for Financial Aid for Your Student, Information on Colleges to help you and your student choose the best college that fits YOUR needs, and Information that will help Support Your Student While in College.

The Spring 2013 cohort will begin the week of February 18th and continue for ten consecutive weeks after school from 3 to 5pm (except school holidays). Please check back for a course schedule.
